Professional

Edward Vanhoutte is currently coordinator of the Centrum voor Teksteditie en Bronnenstudie - CTB (Centre for Scholarly Editing and Document Studies), a research institute of the Koninklijke Academie voor Nederlandse Taal- en Letterkunde - KANTL (Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature - Ghent, Belgium). He is an independent SGML/XML consultant in different academic projects in Belgium and The Netherlands, and publishes widely on textual and genetic criticism and electronic scholarly editing. He teaches graduate courses on genetic editing and humanities computing at the University of Antwerp, and is Associate Editor of Literary & Linguistic Computing. He runs the occasional series Seminars in Electronic Editing. He serves as a member of several boards and councils such as the TEI Council (2004-2005), the scientific committee of the Constantijn Huygens Institute, the Board of Advisors of the Woordenboek der Nederlandse Taal (WNT), the Technological Council of the dbnl: Digitale Bibliotheek der Nederlandse Letteren, and the board of directors of the Vereniging voor Geschiedenis en Informatica (VGI - Association for History and Information Science). His research interests include text-encoding and markup of modern manuscript material, electronic scholarly editing, genetic editing, and the history of electronic editing, and stylogenetics. He is currently working on a doctorate in that field.

Publications

Together with Espen S. Ore and Mats Dahlström he edited Electronic Scholarly Editing - Some Northern European Approaches. A Special Issue of Literary and Linguistic Computing, 19/1 (2004). He is currently co-editing a special issue of Literary and Linguistic Computing featuring the work of graduate students in IT and the Humanities, with Melissa Terras from the School of Library, Archive, and Information Studies at University College London (UK).

Amongst his most recent publications are the facsimile variorum edition of Hugo Claus' Kleine Reeks, the text-critical reading edition of De Leeuw van Vlaenderen (The Lion of Flanders) by Hendrik Conscience (Lannoo, 2002), the text-critical reading edition in bookform (Manteau, 1999) and the electronic-critical edition on CD-Rom of Stijn Streuvels' De teleurgang van den Waterhoek (Amsterdam University Press/KANTL, 2000) which he prepared together with Marcel De Smedt. He edited several collections of essays like Manuscript-Variant-{Genese/Genesis (Gent 2006, with Marcel De Smedt), Epistolaria (Antwerp 2003, with Yves T'Sjoen) De ene leeuw is de andere niet. Zeven maal De Leeuw van Vlaenderen herlezen (Antwerp, 2003), Talig Erfgoed. De Zuidelijke Nederlanden in de 14de eeuw (Gent, 2002), and Paralipomena (Antwerp 2001), a collection of essays on genetic studies which he edited with Dirk Van Hulle.
